ZTE MF28B APN Settings for Public IP

Hi, I spent hours on the phone getting transfered from departments to departments and after finally getting my Public IP, the technical guy made me add a different APN setting, ltepublic.apn in the router's settings. Unfortunately it doesn't work and now he put a ticket in the system and he's not even sure if he got the apn address right.

I need my public address for my remote dvr and I can't do that unless this get fixed.

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this and knew the apn address or how to set it up properly? I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks.

Is it my web browser/settings or Rogers "fastest most reliable network"

I'm using the rocket Hub and the DNS is through Google.I'm getting "MED" reception on it.

Lately I've been noticing my web browser (latest Firefox) seems to sometimes hang while trying toaccess an web site iwth the notation "connecting.." that sometimes takes quit a while before the page will load.

I'm wondering if it is the browser/settings or in fact , Rogers network.

ZTE MF28B - The server “imap.gmail.com” cannot be contacted on port 993.

Hi there,

I'm working off my mac and use gmail through the mail application. But since I got the ZTE Rocket Hub, I can't access my mail through the mail application because of the following error: The server “imap.gmail.com” cannot be contacted on port 993. I thought this had to do with port forwarding but I don't know what ip address to use for port forwarding. I'm quite lost!

Any help would be appreciated,

Lag Spikes and Bad Latency

$

Hi I bought the rocket hub and cellular internet over 2 years ago, possible up to 3 years by now, ever since I bought it I'v been having problems. The latency is all over the place, I play alot of online games aswell as browsing, and I used to watch videos/media online alot aswell but thats impossible with the costly bandwith, but im ok with that.

The problem is the latency is constantly on a rollercoaster of being low, then pretty much spiking to a point where games are far behond unplayable... for instance when playing my latency might be 150-200ms which im ok with... then it will spike to like 1500+ then it comes back down, then spikes back up... all the time. Now to be fair it isnt ALWAYS like this, there are times where it remains in its lower range and things are fine, but this happens in a regular basis.

Also, this isn't just with gaming, often when im having this problem within games its also reflected in browsing, i have 3mb connection yet sometimes websites will take 10 seconds before i even see anything loading up. I just did a speed test and it was 224ms, 1.15mb up, and .02mb down. Thats incredible low for upload speed and im wondering if maby thats part of the problem. Also when downloading something I will also see the rollercoaster of bandwith where i might be getting anywhere from 200-500kbps, fluctuating abit which is normal, then it will suddenly just drop drasticly, sometimes right down to 0 or like maby 10-40kbps... almost non-existant, then after 5-10 seconds it will rise back up to where it was before.

Anyways like I said I'v had this problem for years now, often times when im having problems I will simple go and manualy reset my modem/router(router is in modem), and at very least my internet will be good when it first boots back up, and may last awhile before needing to be reset again or might decline rapidly to where it was previously. I think if the problem was with my modem it would be consistent, but each day is different, usualy when my internet is bad it can last days up to a week before i find that it has evened out again. And at very least im reseting the modem multiple times each and every day, even on the good days, bad days its much worse and often times does very little.

Another thing to point out is that I do live in a rural area, with forest all around me, but my antenna is about 50-60' up on a tower, and while my signal strength does seem to go up and down from low to high, it seems to unrelated to the problems with my internet as my internet could be just fine and still be at low signal, and sometimes its at high signal and be completely terrible(i tend to notice the high signal but poor internet the most as I'm often not looking at it when the internet is fine). Also it seems to unrelated to weather conditions as it has on multiple occasions been a blizzard outside and internet has been just fine.

Sometimes I can't help but feel based on everything i'v witnessed that I'm being throttled heavily at certain times of the day or just in general. Only lately I'v started to feel that I need to try and see if I can find some answers or see if there is something i can do. I have talked to tech support couple years ago which lead me to relising that if I manualy reset modem it would clear up problem sometimes. Open to suggestions to try some different things.

Sierra AirCard, port forwarding, and public/static IPs.

Friend of mine is using the 763S for internet in his shop and trailer.  I've added a router running as a WiFi client, along with some IP cameras, and need to configure incoming connections so he can view his cameras remotely when he's on the road.

I have the AirCard and router connecting properly, I have the cameras set up, I have the port forwarding configured in the AirCard.  Everything internally is working as required. The problem I'm seeing is that the AirCard has a non-public IP, so it can't be reached from the outside at all - tracerte to anywhere outside bounces around several private IPs within Rogers' network.

My friend talked to Rogers and they told him a static IP that would do what he needs, that they do this for lots of customers, and that his account had been set up for it (with a $20 one-time fee and an additional $5/mo).

When I tried to reconfigure his AirCard per the instructions they sent, it didn't work - couldn't connect using staticip.apn.

After close to an hour bouncing between tech support and customer service,  he was told he had a pubic IP, not a static IP... yet the setting for the public IP APN didn't work.

They they told him he couldn't have a static IP without a business account.

THEN they told him he couldn't have a public IP without a business account either.

So what I want to know is... which CSR is full of crap?  The one who told him the static IP was what he wanted in the first place and said it was set up and ready for him...or the one today who said it's not possible without a business account?

And more importantly, is anyone else doing this - AirCard set up to allow incoming connections for a security system?  And if so, what did it take to get it to work?

If this isn't going to be possible, well... he'll have to look for an option other than Rogers.

Hello,

I am new to this forum.  I just received (this week) a Rogers Sierra Wireless LTE MOBILE HOTSPOT 763S device.  I would like to change the login user name/ID as well as the password for the Hotspot AirCard wi-fi.  Can anyone tell me the best and easiest way to do this? Your help would be appreciated!

Wireless Internet with External Router & Public IP

I live in a rural area with not many choices for internet access. I started with a Netcomm wirless router from Rogers but had a lot of disconnects and the "lost DNS" problem many suffered from. I finally bought a W35 (used) and it resolved many of my connection issues. It still went off-line every once and a while so I put it on an AC timer to reset it once a week. I also had a public ip (5$/mo) using the VPN.com apn so I could access my security cameras remotely and VPN into the lan when I needed to.

Then LTE came along in our area... I purchased a Sierra 330U air card and a ASUS RT-AC66U to see if I could get them to work as my access setup. I have had good luck with the RT-AC66U in other locations with cable or DSL.

To make a long story shorter - they work great together. Stable, 25 Mbps down, 1.5Mbps up. and all of the features of a real router (like VPN from the router). I did run into a few quirks along the way (mostly with the way Rogers network works).

1. The vpn.com apn does not support LTE

2. The apn for a public IP ($5/mo option) is ltepublicip.apn

3. Stangely the Rogers LTE network does not allow a direct connection from one LTE device to another. In otherwords I was unable to connect to my LTE stick (even though it had a public IP) from my iPhone on Rogers. After 4 days of level 2 support - the only solution we could get to work was to put a public IP on the iPhone as well (for another $5/mo). Even this solution is not perfect as the teathering (personal hotspot) uses a different apn which as far as we can tell is not changeable (locked down by Rogers) hence I cannot get access to my security cameras or VPN using the iPhone as a personal hotspot (though I can directly through the iPhone). I may end up putting my iPhone on Bell to get an IP that is not on the Rogers network to fully resolve the issue.

4. Finally Rogers does not seem to have the same plans for sticks as they do hubs, so I purchased an LTE Hub and gave them the details on it so now I am using a stick on a hub plan

Not sure why Rogers makes things so difficult, maybe their new CEO who is supposably focussed on Customer Service can change this over time.

Overall it's an 80% solution for me - but better than dropping LTE all together

Hope this may help out others who have struggled with similar issues.

ZTE MF28B as router

Hi,

I was wondering...I own a ZTE MF28B and am switching to DSL due to poor rockethub speeds in our rural area & low data caps with no warning that you're near exceeding them. Can I hook up a dsl modem to the WAN port on the rockethub & use the hub as a wireless router only for the dsl connection? That would save me having to buy a new wireless router, given that I have already more than paid Rogers for this one. Thanks.

cancelling rocket hub - can i transfer plan to someone else??? 30gb for $60/mth

I am finally able to get a fibre optic internet connection and television to my house (live in rural area) so i am saying goodbye to rogers hub for internet and goodbye to bell expressvu for tv.

I had rogers outdoor modem fot two years with unlimited data for like $50 /month until rogers cancelled that service and made me purchase the rocket portable hub for couple hundred dollars and capped my usage to the tier system of 10gb data for $45 / month or a maximun of 30gb for $60 month....this offer was only grandfathered in too the customers that had the outdoor modem......anyways, since i don't need the rocket hub or the data plan, can i transfer it over too someone else that would like to take advantage of the cheap rates

Looking to purchase the LTE Rocket Mobile Hotspot. I live in the States, and I will use the Hotspot in Nova Scotia, while visiting. I want to make sure I can connect my laptops, smart phone, and tablet to the Hotspot before I purchase it.

Is the LTE Rocket Mobile Hotspot compatiable with U.S. laptops, tablets, and smartphones?

Thanks for your help.

Where to find Rocket Hub useage now?

Where did Roges hide it this time? I've gone into my account and all I can really find is how much money I've spent , how much money I owe and how much money I can spend on "improvements". It seems the link to the Hub useage is gone and the timy little "run a useage report" just seems to link right back to the money page.

Where is it hidden now? Anyone ever find it?

Activation question

I own an unlocked HSPA+ usb stick.

I'm curious about the process on how to activate it to get the Flex Rate Plan for Mobile Internet for Rogers.

My understanding is that I need to buy a Rogers SIM card ($10), then activate it ($15). After that I will be elligible for the Flex Rate plan.

Is this correct?

Also, I plan to purshase the Flex Rate Plan every few months or so. Will I have to pay the $15 activation fee each time I stop and re-enroll in the plan?

iPhone hotspot vs. Rocket stick?

Going up to the cottage where we have good mobile reception.  My current mobile data plan is only 1G however.  I'll be using the Internet for a few hours a day for work (mostly viewing emails but some downloading/uploading of graphic files, documents, etc. Files can be anywhere from a few kb to 10+mb)

A few questions, for you knowledgeable folks :smileyhappy:

- Would using iPhone as hotspot be insufficient in this case?

- Regardless, is there a cost to me (aside from using up my data) to using mobile hotspot?

- Would getting a rocket stick be a better option?

- If so, is it possible to 'rent' a stick for a short time, or do I need to sign up long term?

...it's a one-week vacation...

I should mention that I have the option of getting a 5GB modem for the week for $100 - perhaps this is the best way to go...

Thank you!
